Genesis of the Escoulen School

 

After a traditional apprenticeship in woodturning of cabinet (table feet, style, balusters...) carried out in 1972, Jean-François Escoulen is gradually oriented towards the creation of unique pieces. His great mastery of the woodturning in finesse and eccentric woodturning led him to share his knowledge around the world. His meetings with woodturners from different countries gave him the opportunity to refine his techniques and creations.+

Between 2010 and 2012, thanks to this experience and national and international reputation, Jean-François Escoulen and his wife Monique Escoulen, cabinetmaker, worked at the request of the municipality of Aiguines, on the creation of the Jean-François Escoulen woodturning school.

In Aiguines, the woodturning is mentioned at the end of the 16th century, the village is renowned for the manufacture of its « studded ball » whose production was exported throughout France... to learn more visit the Aiguines museum.

 

The municipality of Aiguines has been working for many years to honour this heritage and to keep and develop know-how, hence the creation of the school and the museum.
